Parent / Caregiver Focused Workshops

I’m passionate about connecting with parents / caregivers to share some of the resources and information I wish I’d had when my three children were younger. In today’s world, many of us feel tremendously isolated from the “village” which would make caregiving a whole lot easier and there is a lot of pressure to somehow know what the “right” things to do or say are. Many of us are so afraid of getting it wrong, making things worse, or are at our wits end to think of something new to try when so many things haven’t worked.

I use my education and experience to develop and facilitate presentations that are enjoyable, informative, relevant, and above all, useful.

Areas of focus include: attachment, emotion dysregulation (‘big’ behaviours, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, substance use), post-critical incident response, safety planning, suicide risk assessment, and maintaining positive relationships.

Additional topics for speaking engagements, in-services or workshops include:

  • Self Harm

  • Suicidal Ideation

  • Suicide Risk Assessment / Safety Planning

  • Critical Incident Debrief

Prioritization of Caregiver Engagement

Most children don't do anything on their own the first time - they need loving, supportive caregivers to show them how to feed themselves, tie their shoelaces, and learn to read. The same is true for learning about healthy mental health strategies; children need the support of caregivers to reinforce at home the positive coping skills which may be introduced in therapy. A shift away from the expectation of individualized support for children/adolescents to one which would automatically include the involvement of parents/caregivers is essential to supporting ongoing, adaptive changes for young ones who struggle with mental health challenges. Please join Nicole for a conversation about how to prioritize caregivers as the most influential agents of change in their child/adolescent's journey to mental wellness.
